Maps of Time: A Cross-Chain Series

While earning my undergrad/graduate degrees to become a teacher, I spent significant amounts of time studying history, geography, and science. I was so incredibly fascinated how we try to understand the world around us using both analog and digital methods and tools and the information we gather to make those tools work successfully. Briefly, I’ll talk a little more about the two main series influences then about the series itself.

Series Influences:

At no other point in history have we been able to visualize our world in extremely complex ways. The most common tool we all use as a society are called Geographic Information Systems (GIS) coupled with the Global Positioning System (GPS). Google Maps, ArcGIS and others are the most utilized GIS, and they combine a variety of information to help us make sense of things. Additionally, GPS aids us in locating ourselves and works with the GIS to give us full decision-making capability to tackle our day-to-day tasks. From traffic and directional data to environmental considerations such as weather and pollution information, GIS are extremely useful tools that help our society get the needed information to have piece of mind to be able to meet our needs. I used these tools extensively to create deeper understanding of historical data, such as the journeys of medieval travelers or progression of settlement across the world when our species was young.

All of that to say: I love maps.

In addition to geography, I absolutely enjoy astronomy and cosmology. Learning about the fundamental forces that have shaped our universe have given me an interesting understanding of the world around us. In my undergrad/graduate school I was able to feed my curiosities through a science based approach to history called Big History. You can learn more about that through this link: www.oerproject.com/big-history-public. A good friend of mine shares my love for these things and has a incredible personal telescope that I’ve been fortunate enough to spend time with. Viewing the celestial bodies that surround us in our solar system is nothing short of mind blowing, inducing an awe I do not have the language to describe. Space itself and my understanding of it is ever evolving and complexifying, leading me to greater peace with my place in this vast cosmos.

The Series:

I wanted to find a way to combine these interests I academically and personally enjoy, so I set out to see if I could. Using collage to combine cco space photography and mapping data in addition to GAN/CLIP textures and elements, I created scenes that I was familiar with but fascinated by all at once. Utilizing the knowledge and tools of my educational pursuits and things I receive personal satisfaction learning about, I genuinely feel I was able to capture the spirit of my desire to display these interests of mine.

Minting works on Manifold (ETH), Exchange (Sol) and Objkt.com (Tez), this was my first cross-chain series. I am incredibly excited to offer these works in different ecosystems that can share in this experience. (@Rez_inProgress)
